Tips to a Healthy Lifestyle in 2019

Here are some helpful tips to help you ease into a healthier lifestyle for 2019!

  1. Set Realistic Goals For Yourself

Break down the mental wall for yourself and set realistic goals. If your goal is to lose 20 pounds, it’s not going to happen overnight. Set meal plans, and workout strategies throughout your week and stick to them. Make them reasonable with your schedule! If you are not a morning person, don’t say you are going to work out at 5am before you go to your job. Instead say, “I am going to eat healthy throughout the day, and go to the gym after work today”. Pack a healthy lunch, and healthy snacks, and a gym bag, to get your body fueled and ready for the gym after office hours.

  1. Eat Right & Portion Each Meal

It’s important to eat to live a healthier lifestyle. It’s also important to not overeat and eat foods that are good for your body and will help with the digestive system. Eat the right amount of calories for how active you are, because that helps balance the energy you consume with the energy you use. It is recommended that we eat at least five portions of fruits and vegetables a day. Fruits such as pears, apples, oranges, and bananas are easy to carry and grab a snack, which can substitute for when you want something sweet. An easy trick to measure out a portion of your food is by your hand! For example, a protein such as chicken, beef, fish or pork, should be 3 ounces, about the size of your palm. When cooking and serving meals at home, use smaller plates, because your plate will look full, and you will be eating less.

  1. Drink Your Water

Be careful with what you drink. While a fruit smoothie or juice may seem healthy, they can be loaded with calories and have a high sugar count.  Drink about 6 to 8 cups of glasses of water a day, because it helps maintain the balance of body fluids. Water helps energize muscles and help the skin look good. Drinking water helps your kidneys, by getting rid of the toxins that can be stored in your body. If you love soda, consider drinking seltzer – also known as bubbly water, carbonated water, soda water, and sparkling water— seltzer is a great soda alternative that lacks in calories and sugars!

  1. Stay Motivated

An important key to living a healthier lifestyle is being motivated and to stay motivated. If you are looking to be more active, look into group fitness classes or a personal trainer. If you are looking to eat healthier, look into food tracker apps, to help track your process and to stay motivated to eat healthier. Mental health is also just as important as physical health, look into talking to a professional, to help you stay on the right track and to keep you going!

It’s time to end toxic relationships and friendships with people who bring you down who should be building you up. Stay away from that kind of negativity! Stay positive and remind yourself you can do anything you set your mind too! Surround yourself with people who love and support you and your goals!
