Spring is finally here! It’s time to open all of your windows – and less excitingly, your cleaning supplies cabinet. A good, deep spring clean is a tradition that not only promotes wellness by keeping your home neat and tidy but also signifies a fresh start into the warmer months.

While cleaning and organizing your home from top to bottom may seem stressful and time-consuming, it doesn’t have to be. Here are some spring cleaning tips that will help you keep your house in tip-top shape all year long.

1. Clean Room by Room

Approaching your house room by room can make spring cleaning easy and less daunting. Creating a checklist for each room can also make it easy to keep up with cleaning for the rest of the year and remind you of areas that need extra attention. A good idea is to assign each room and cleaning duty to a different day of the week so you aren’t completely overwhelmed.

2. Organize and Clear Clutter

A big part of spring cleaning is getting rid of any items you don’t need. Start to organize your closet, pantry, refrigerator, office, and any other areas of your home where you feel like there is a lot of clutter. Take some time and go through every single thing (checking expiration dates on foods, trying on each piece of clothing, etc.) and sort your belongings in four piles: keep, trash, donate, and store for later.

3. Invest In a New Vacuum

Get a new vacuum that fits your needs. If you’re looking for a vacuum that does all of the work for you, the Roomba iRobot is for you. Hate getting tripped up on cords? Then we suggest the Samsung Jet Complete Cordless Vacuum. The Black & Decker Steam Mop & Dry Vacuum is the best of both worlds– eliminating tough dirt and grime with the cleaning power of steam.

4. Get the Whole Family Involved

Don’t just take on cleaning the whole house on your own. Assign age-appropriate chores to each member of your family – even small children can help put things away. Make it fun by playing music or establishing a reward for getting the chore done.

5. Don’t Forget an Air Purifier

One of the least fun aspects of spring is pollen. With the weather getting warmer and the trees and flowers blooming, seasonal allergies are about to be in full effect. It’s important to invest in a good quality air purifier with a powerful filtration system. This will not only filter pollen out of the air, but also dust, mites, smoke, and more.

6. Use a Spring Cleaning Checklist

Organizing all of your tasks into one place makes tackling big projects much easier. As we said, going room by room is one way to organize your tasks, but if you find yourself struggling to start, here’s a handy spreadsheet that you can use this spring to make cleaning so much easier.

Break up the deep cleaning into actionable steps with a 30-day checklist! One way to plan it out so it’s not too difficult is by planning to do easy tasks during the week while doing the deep cleaning work on the weekends or on your days off.

Here’s an example of the first 7 days of a 30-day plan that you can use to build out your own plan.

☐ Day 1: Spend 15-30 minutes decluttering the kitchen counter

☐ Day 2: Dust light fixtures, side tables, and windowsills with microfiber cloths

☐ Day 3: Wipe down windows, mirrors, oven doors, and microwave doors

☐ Day 4: Spend 15-30 minutes decluttering your bedroom

☐ Day 5: Vacuum floors around the house

☐ Day 6: Deep clean the kitchen, replace the dishwasher filter, organize cabinets, clean the range hood, mop the floors, and clean out the fridge.

☐ Day 7: Clean out your pantry, throw out old food, donate items you don’t want including old appliances, and wipe down baseboards.

8. Use an Old Pillowcase to Clean Ceiling Fans

Did you know you can dust off dirty ceiling fan blades without making a mess? It’s pretty simple. Take an old pillowcase, step up on a stepstool, slip the pillowcase over the fan blade up to the base of it, then hold tension on both sides of the blade and pull back on the pillowcase.

You can also use a light soapy detergent or sprayable dust cleaner applied to the inside of the pillowcase to make removing the dust even easier.

9. Clean Your Appliances

Your appliances put in hard work all year long, but you might not think about the dirt and grime that they build up. Dishwashers, garbage disposals, and ice makers all deserve some attention while spring cleaning. Thankfully, they’re easy to clean with some simple cleaning solutions that you can apply or add to those devices while using them. Check out our selection of appliance cleaners as you prepare for spring cleaning.

10. Don’t Forget the Power of Steam Cleaning

You don’t always need cleaning products to get the job done. Sometimes all you need is the power of hot water and steam to remove deep stains and dirt. We recommend tackling difficult bathroom cleaning tasks with a McCulloch Canister Steam Cleaner. It comes with plenty of attachments that let you power through detailing work before switching to clean shower doors or shower walls.

It’s also not limited to the bathroom. Use one of these steam cleaners for other home cleaning tasks like steaming living room furniture, deep cleaning your oven, or even detailing your car’s upholstery.
