Replace Your Mattress

You might be guilty of never changing your mattress. Suggested by The Better Sleep Council, your body may be ready for a new mattress even before the suggested 7-year mark! Mattresses were not designed to last forever, and excessive wear and tear will age a product faster. Even with owning a top of a line mattress, it will eventually need replacing. Since you spend one-third of your life sleeping, a mattress plays a huge role in our health and overall well-being.

If you have been waking up each morning with stiffness, numbness, aches, and pains it is most likely time for a new mattress. If you find yourself getting a better night’s sleep on a bed that is not yours such as a hotel’s bed, or even the couch in the living room, it’s really time to get a new mattress. Getting a good night’s rest can take a serious toll on your daytime energy, productivity, emotional balance, and even your weight.

Old and low-quality mattresses are one of the largest causes of lower back pain. No, it does not always have to do with your age, it has to do with your mattress lumping together overtime. Think about this, we tend to sleep on only one side of the bed and over time the bed will sag while other parts of the mattress will stay high and firm.

To help prevent your mattresses from sagging you may want to consider mattress toppers, and thick mattress pads to prevent from forming lumps and dips. Your mattress is just as important as it’s bed frame and the box spring. Having both of these will help your mattress breathe, which will prevent mold from forming.

When was the last time you washed your bedsheets? It is recommended to wash your bed sheets at least once a week, however, folks have admitted to only washing their bedsheets maybe once every three months. YUCK! Sleeping on dirty sheets does not sound pleasing. You sweat and shed all over your bed at night in your sheets that also goes into your mattress, damaging your mattress over time.

Mattresses can double in weight over a period of 10 years, due to the dust mite debris, and dead skin cells. When you fall asleep at night, you may also want to say goodnight to over the six billion dust mites. A mattress that is over eight years old on average contains more than 10 pounds of dead skin cells. Your mattress might also be a cause in your allergies or asthma. Protein in dust mites may cause and increase allergic reactions, asthma attacks, increase in coughing, wheezing, and tightness in the chest.

In order to keep your mattress in good shape manage the dust mites by vacuuming frequently, changing your sheets, and considering checking out mite-proof bedding materials. Getting a mattress protector will help with long-term compression and help reduce sagging. Rotating your mattress every few months will also help to even out the mattress with your body.

If you are looking for a new mattress, you first need to get rid of your old one. Research in your local area for a junk removal place, that also is able to recycle mattresses. Mattresses parts can be recycled up to 90% that can be repurposed to create new products. Charities might be able to take the mattress off of your hands as well and that may even get you a tax deduction. Some non-profit organizations offer free pickup services in certain locations. Check-in with homeless shelters, women’s and children’s shelters and even animal shelters as well to see if they will take a donated mattress.
