Homegrown Cooking with Lodge Cast Iron

History

It all started in South Pittsburgh, TN in 1896 when Joseph Lodge started the Blacklock Foundry, a company that manufactured cast iron products, including cookware. The foundry was very successful until things took a devastating turn in May 1910 and the foundry burned down. BUT when most would have seen a door close in their face, Joseph Lodge saw it as an opportunity for a new door to be opened, and three months after the fire Lodge Cast Iron was born.

After persevering through the Great Depression in the 1930s, meeting the growing business demands in the 1950s, and another round of rough economic times in the 1970s, Lodge Cast Iron became a household name for American-made cast iron cookware. Since then, Lodge continues to pioneer innovative industry standards; seasoned cast iron cookware, porcelain-enameled cookware, and seasoned carbon steel cookware just to name a few.

Over 120 years later and Lodge is still at the forefront of the cast iron industry. And being at the forefront of the industry also means they know a thing or two about what to cook and how to cook with cast iron. Their website features A LOT of yummy recipes, so I thought I’d grab a few of their top-rated ones to share with you. Whether you’re a beginner with cast iron, or you’re quite the professional, there’s a recipe for you.
