Every Day Should Be Earth Day

This year earth day is celebrated on April 22nd but every day should be earth day! There are many ways to give back to your planet and small changes can make a big difference when working to reduce an environmental footprint. Here are ten tips to help you make the earth a better place!

1. Plant a Tree

What a better way to celebrate the planet by giving it a gift of a new tree? Trees improve air quality by filtering harmful dust and pollutants from the air we breathe.

2. Reduce Your Waste

Ditch the plastic bags and invest in reusable bags while shopping! Start shopping at a farmers market for fruits and vegetables not only you would help reduce waste but also supports local farmers!

3. Reuse Materials

You can reuse everyday items from jars, pots, newspapers, cardboard, old clothes and even tires! Turn empty jars and pots into small containers, and even bird feeders for the outside. Save newspaper and cardboard boxes for future packing, gift uses and even moving. Turn old clothes in rags for cleaning or even pet toys! Old tires can be used for fun for the kids in the backyard by turning into a tire swing!

4. Recycle Materials

Recycling materials such as aluminum, steel cans, cardboard, glass, newspaper, and plastic bottles can all be made into new products including cans to hold food and drinks! Reminder the saying, “reuse, reduce, recycle” helping close the loop on trash!

5. Donate Gently Used Items

Whether its clothes or furniture donate your items to good causes. Many charities and churches, will take in used furniture and old appliances. Donating clothes and other goods help support people in need.

6. Conserve Electricity

An easy and simple way to conserve electricity is to turn off the lights when you leave the room!

7. Start a Compost

Starting a compost is good for both your garden and the environment. Composts help grow healthier plants, reduce landfills, saves water, decreases the need for chemical fertilizers, and improves soil properties!

8. Buy Second-Hand Items

Not only will buying second-hand items such as clothes and furniture will save you money but will also help the recycling system!

9. Buy Energy Efficient Light Bulbs

Energy efficient light bulbs last up to 12 times as long as a traditional bulb, using less electricity to emit the same amount of lighting.

10. Bring Your Own Bags to the Grocery Store

Plastic store bags are not always recycled property, by bringing your own bags to the grocery store you are currently down plastic that can be harmful to the environment.
